I completed week 4 of the couch-to-5k plan, which is running intervals of 3-5-3-5 minutes with a total of 5.5 minutes of walking. All in all, it went fine, except for some knee problems after the second run.
This week will see me doing week 5, which culminates in a 20 minute run without walking. We'll see how that goes :) If I finish it, I'll probably squee in this community.
I ran 10k on Saturday without my hip hurting at all, and today my physio got me to run on a treadmill and critique my running form. This was, in fact, extremely exciting, because no-one's ever actually looked at how how I run before, and hopefully if I improve this I can cut down on my chances of reinjuring myself. Apparently I turn in my knees too much.
(next week, however, I am going to plan for treadmill running and take not just running shorts, but suitably supportive undergarments!)
My running is still totally off-schedule with all the travel and prep for travel i've been doing at work (on top of the week before's crazy get stuck in europe fiasco) I managed a single run last week with a partner who is too fast for me and i had to ask repeatedly to slow down. but i did also get a nice 20 minute swim in and a 50 mile bike ride so at least i had 3 days of actual exercise. not ideal, but not horrible.
I ran a 4.5-mile hilly run on Saturday, on some trails that hardly anyone is using, so there was a lot of dodging of poison oak and pushing through shrubberies. Only stopped to breathe once, at the top of the final summit, and I finished in about 50 minutes, which is pretty good time for me. Maybe by June I can do it without stopping.
Still working out some knee woes, so I ran 4 miles on Wednesday and then yesterday I did a brick workout where I biked 17.5 miles and then ran 3. The brick was tougher than expected because both courses were hilly (I've never really run hills before) and it was omfgsoHOT outside.
Looking forward to getting back into the running groove this week with at least 3 runs plus all the other tri training. Only 47 days until my first tri! *hides*
I did the half at the Illinois Marathon this weekend. Unfortunately, the humidity kicked my ass and I started having trouble about five miles in, so I ended up walking about 3 or 4 miles. But I finished!
Yipes - an internet friend of mine ran that full and finished half an hour off his goal because of the humidity. It sounds like everywhere from the midwest to the east coast racers were getting slammed with unusually hot and humid weather.
You should be proud that you finished in those conditions!
Thanks! I was kind of bummed at first, because I had been training a lot better than what I did this weekend, but I got over it. :D Finishing means a lot too.
I ran 12 miles during the week and 5k on Saturday. My knees and hips started acting up so I plan on resting but hope it doesn't mess up my running schedule.
I want to sign up for another 5k, because I really enjoyed Saturday's events.
I finally saw a physical therapist about my ankle problems. Diagnosis peroneal tendinitis, just as I had suspected. It looks like I won't be running much if at all for the next few weeks. Boo.
I managed to run 5.6K on Tuesday, 10K on Wednesday (found a new trail yay), and then went out ot do another 5.6K today, only to find that the riverside trail ahd sprouted an extra loop and an artificial island so it's now technically a 5.8K loop. Huh.
No running at all on the weekend, though I did spend 3.5 hours on the bike... which counts for something I suppose.
It totally counts! I did a 45 minute mountain bike loop today and was pleased to discover it doesn't bother my peroneal tendinitis. It's going to be my cross-training for the next few weeks.
And actually, I love it when trails sprout new loops. More variety is yay!
I spent the week being somewhat depressed over relationship stuff and not getting any running in. I scrimmaged with my soccer team for 30 minutes, and I walked/hiked about 20 miles for the week, but aerobic exercise was not a part of my life.
Thanks! Hugs are definitely helpful, and your comment arrived at a moment when I was feeling a little blue again. You gave me a smile when I needed one!
I did six days on at the gym, which is unusual for me, as I usually do three, take a rest, and continue thusly. But I took the weekend off, and it was a tremendous help for my knees, which had been swollen with weather and arthritis issues in addition to doing about ten miles over the course of the week.
This week promises to be good. I'm speeding up my individual miles and really increasing my stamina.

Also this week I did some strength work, inspired by the new
Signed up for a 5K on the 9th! Just the second one I've ever done, and the first didn't go very well, so I'm apprehensive.
