Tuesday is the new Monday - weekly check in
So runners, how was your week? Tell us what was the hardest thing for you this week and/or the most rewarding...
Random quote of the day -
Running long and hard is an ideal antidepressant, since it's hard to run and feel sorry for yourself at the same time. Also, there are those hours of clearheadedness that follow a long run.

Races run: George Washington Parkway 10 miler.
Training plan: What training plan?
Full race report sometime tonight at my journal along with travelogue about being stuck in Spain while ash grounded the plane and there was no room on the train...
Most difficult running moment of the week: mile 9. Ran out of gas totally and had to watch the people I had been running with disappear in the distance. Most rewarding: at the end of the race, I signed up for a massage and Adam my new BFF and possibly also my new chiropractor did a magic with the really unhappy glute that's been plaguing me for about 6 weeks and it stopped hurting immediately

Ran yesterday, hope to run Thursday+Sunday, and that with two days' rest inbetween both runs knee will behave.

This week is not going well so far; my ankle is really hurting a lot. I ran 4 miles twice so far since the marathon, both miserable and slow and painful. I'm about to schedule a visit with a physical therapist recommended by my massage therapist. Woe.

Last week I did two five-mile runs and a 10.6-mile run in preparation for the half-marathon this weekend. The 10-miler was pretty tough, since it was warming up and the humidity was 83%. But I did it!
This week, I'm tapering. I did four miles this morning and will do two tomorrow, with maybe a little light cross-training Thursday but maybe not. I need to get myself psyched up for the race!

It looks like it might rain, which I don't mind if it's warm. We'll just have to see.

I would love to see some links to inspirational quotes here, actually. Many years ago I had a photocopy of a page of running quotes from Running magazine, including things like "The step out the door is the hardest part of the run" and "You're running enough if your mother thinks you need to eat more" (which thinking back on it may not be that healthy, but).
I would love to have something like that around for the days when I just don't wanna.

Since I'm a bit out of shape after the winter and have not yet fully got my breathing under control again, I'm making myself take it slow; surprised myself by managing consistent 11 minute miles for my almost-4-mile loop today, without feeling the need for a walking break. And yes, by my standards, that's pretty fast!
The hardest part? Getting up and doing it. The most rewarding? Having done it. Stretching and heading for a nice warm shower.

Some
daysweeks are like that. I appreciate you posting Monte Davis' quote, because it's a good reminder for me that running really *does* make me feel much better, and is an effective antidepressant for me.no subject
