Tuesday is the new Monday - weekly check in

So runners, how was your week? Tell us what was the hardest thing for you this week and/or the most rewarding...

Random quote of the day -

Running long and hard is an ideal antidepressant, since it's hard to run and feel sorry for yourself at the same time. Also, there are those hours of clearheadedness that follow a long run.

Went running thrice last week, which was adequate - had really hoped for four runs, but my knee is being stupid.

Ran yesterday, hope to run Thursday+Sunday, and that with two days' rest inbetween both runs knee will behave.

I went running three times, more or less according to the Couch-to-5k plan and yesterday (so technically this week) I started week 4 of it and ran 5 minute intervals :)

The hardest thing for me after the Boston Marathon was walking down the stairs. :-)

This week is not going well so far; my ankle is really hurting a lot. I ran 4 miles twice so far since the marathon, both miserable and slow and painful. I'm about to schedule a visit with a physical therapist recommended by my massage therapist. Woe.

Last week went really well for me. The best part was a long run Sunday morning, 5 1/2 miles in a beautiful setting and perfect weather. Unexpected work-related awfulness kept me from running four days as I'd planned, but I still managed to make my goal of 12 1/2 miles total, just did it in three runs instead of four. My goal for this week is 13 1/2.

I've found that *antidepressants* are the ideal antidepressants, unless your depression is relatively mild. Exercise is great, but it doesn't cure everything. Also, you have to be healthy enough to start doing it in the first place! :)

Last week I did two five-mile runs and a 10.6-mile run in preparation for the half-marathon this weekend. The 10-miler was pretty tough, since it was warming up and the humidity was 83%. But I did it!

This week, I'm tapering. I did four miles this morning and will do two tomorrow, with maybe a little light cross-training Thursday but maybe not. I need to get myself psyched up for the race!

Ooh, good luck on your half! I hope the weather is not too hot and humid for you.

Thank you!

It looks like it might rain, which I don't mind if it's warm. We'll just have to see.

Last week was nearly run free. I had some persisting knee soreness and I decided to stop running for a week to let it heal before it had a chance to become a proper knee injury. I did a short 30 minute easy test run on Sunday to see how it was doing and I think it's good to go this week with normal workouts. I have a long bike/run brick on Sunday, though, so I probably won't go too hard before then.

I ran Fri/Sat/Sun, 4 miles/5 miles/4 miles. Ridiculously slow: 13-minute miles, I think. But hey, I'm getting my mileage back up. Now I just have to keep it up again.

I would love to see some links to inspirational quotes here, actually. Many years ago I had a photocopy of a page of running quotes from Running magazine, including things like "The step out the door is the hardest part of the run" and "You're running enough if your mother thinks you need to eat more" (which thinking back on it may not be that healthy, but).

I would love to have something like that around for the days when I just don't wanna.

I have a bunch somewhere. Probably my favorite these days is from Steve Prefontaine: "If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail."

Tangent: Going to put my shoes on is the hardest part - once I'm up and moving in the direction of my shoes, then I'm fine - but the moment before that, trying to make myself get up, that is my hardest part.

Am at least starting to run regularly again, now that winter is finally over (no snickering in the back there - only last Thursday did I bike to work in below-freezing temps in the morning!). Ran twice this week, 7.5 miles total.

Since I'm a bit out of shape after the winter and have not yet fully got my breathing under control again, I'm making myself take it slow; surprised myself by managing consistent 11 minute miles for my almost-4-mile loop today, without feeling the need for a walking break. And yes, by my standards, that's pretty fast!

The hardest part? Getting up and doing it. The most rewarding? Having done it. Stretching and heading for a nice warm shower.

I have not run in two weeks. I had a cold for a week, and then I had the usual migraine & death cramps and then I had... um... no excuses.

Some days weeks are like that. I appreciate you posting Monte Davis' quote, because it's a good reminder for me that running really *does* make me feel much better, and is an effective antidepressant for me.

One 8.5k run, a lot of walking and more physio - I'm allowed to do two 8-10k runs this week, but it's been difficult motivating myself to do really short runs.
