"Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up." — Dean Karnazes

(BTW, his book Ultramarathon Man is an entertaining read; I listened to the audiobook version this winter while running, and let me tell you, listening to him talk about running in the Antarctic kept me from wimping out from a 10-miler in the snow.)

So, runners! How was your week? What are your plans for the upcoming week? Are you meeting your goals? Do you have any new goals?

Is it Monday already?

Last week managed 3 days of running for a total of 13 miles or so, about 60 on the bike, no swimming at all, but Sunday was a "brick" - 13 miles on the bike with 4 running immediately following. Now if I can just swim 800 m without drowning, I'll be ready for next month's sprint Tri. :-) This week's goal is 20 running and same biking as last week

Last week went great, pretty much just what I'd planned to do: 15.3 miles in five runs, starting off with a really fun charity 5K race last Sunday. I'm aiming for 16.something this week, but probably in four runs rather than five. (Still nervous about the 10K I signed up to do next month though.)

I'm getting into a routine - 5.8K on Mondays, somewhere between 9 and 10 on Wednesdays, and speedwork on Fridays, again 5.8 or thereabouts. This Friday kicked my arse and had me take walking breaks - apparently not all times opf the month are equally good for speedwork.

Yesterday's easy run was so easy I spontaneously lengthened it - 7.5K :)

And since everyone here seems to be a bike enthusiast too, yes I biked downtown and back twice last week too, which is about 40K in total... ack, I sound so... sporty!

I'm still working on increasing my long run (7 km this past Sunday) and speeding up my two short runs (5 km each). So I'm seeing progress, but it's slow, apart from the extra kilometre I run each Sunday. :)

I'm really busy this week so fitting running in is going to be tough, but I'd like to consolidate with two 5 km runs (Tuesday and Friday) and then increase my Sunday run to 8 km.

Tuesday I did Couch-to-5K week 6, day 1, which was realyl hard and depressing. Friday was day 2, which was nicer and on a different route. Since then, however, my legs have been hurting... :/

Oh, and goals! I am actually just back from my first 25-minute run as I edit this :) Goals are to do that two or three more times and maybe going a bit further.

Ran/walked 4K today in 4/1 intervals in exactly 25 mins = 6:15 min/km av. pace, which I'm very pleased with after suffering a set-back in the form of a nasty cold two weeks ago.

Apart from the 1+ week my cold was too nasty to run with, I've been good about running at least 3 times a week.

Currently I'm smitten with my OpenOffice spreadsheet showing my running distances/times/paces and projections of same, and right now running against my projections is such fun I'd be happy to do it every day, only my knee disagrees.

But I really need to not compare myself to better and more disciplined runners, because then my times are depressing :o)

My week was utterly failtastic. The gym was closed, and it rained all week long, meaning the running path was completely soggy. It was also cold and windy, which I why I didn't get out and run somewhere else. Sooo, I ran last Sunday and that was about it.

This past week was pretty good, but it was also an easy week for me.

I have given up completely on interval training as it apparently fucks with my head and makes me want to cry and stop halfway through even though physically I'm fine and capable of continuing. I will continue to sprint through the occasional intersection because apparently that is Totally Different and A-Okay with the part of my mind where my running issues reside.

32 days until my triathlon! Oh god.

Yay swim/bike/run!

And I feel as though perhaps we are doing the same triathlon next month?? :)

(I haven't actually signed up for it but it's 88% full so far. I'm officially signed up for Nations in Sept but last week made me realize that I could actually do the sprint on June 20 as prep. And yes, my first tri!!!!

(are you doing either or both? wanna give advice to a newbie?)

I am doing both! I signed up for Nation's first and then realized that doing a shorter tri would be a good idea, so I'm doing the sprint in June. It'll be my first tri too! I've been doing the new triathlete program with the DC Tri group and that's been a great help. They have a training schedule and they put on clinics and practice events and give you advice about what works and what doesn't. I highly recommend them as a group in general, even outside of NTP. They're always putting on events and workshops. I'm super excited but still feel totally unprepared to do all three sports at once. One more month to go!

I was too late to sign up for that with DC Tri so I figured I'd train on my own for Nations since it's a bit farther away, but one of my co-workers is trying to convince me that the sprint in June would be useful and very doable for me (but the swimming scares the crap out of me)

One day I shall own a proper runner's watch - right now I make do with my clunky old cellphone, but it certainly has it's limitations, e.g. for the interval timer. But I think it gives me a better idea of what I want my future watch to be able to do, so I'm not sold something I don't need/missings functions I do need.

Another out-of-town conference and non-running related medical problems, so only one long run last week and lots of physio exercises. Hope to get back on track this week!
