Weekly check-in

How did running last week?

Those of you not posting: Feeling bad about not currently running/too embarrassed to admit you haven't been able to drag yourself out to run? Maybe knowing you're not the only one having trouble finding motivation can actually help you find motivation. (I know when I've had longer breaks, it can be depressing to hear about how well seemingly everyone else is doing.)

I'm currently waiting for temperatures above 5°C so the frozen ground doesnt hurt my legs. The way it's going, that might take another week or two. It's -5°C right now.

The non-pavement roads were hurting my legs lats time I ran, because the ground was so frozen. Besides, even the thought of running in these temperatures is making me sick. I'll stick to strength training until it's at least somewhat spring-y :) There#s still snow lying around :/

Only one run on Wednesday, when it was sunny and dry. By Friday I was on my period and the weather turned cold and wet again - both things not very inviting to go running. Not sure how this week will go.

Ran a very tiny 5K race on Saturday, so tiny that I was the first over-40 woman (they had four awards, for first man and woman over and under 40) and won a gift certificate to the local running store for a pair of shoes! Unfortunately it's restricted to a particular brand, not one I use, but I am thinking of getting trail shoes with it. I didn't PR, though, and I was a bit disappointed by that as I am trying to improve.

My running has been going well as we have had a very dry and (apart from one early very cold snap) warm winter. Today it was a bit below freezing although sunny, but most days it's been 40-45F (5-7C), and I have run in shorts or running skirt a half dozen times! Definitely easier to run, though, when I don't have to cope with bad weather as so many of you do.

It finally stopped raining on Sunday, and I've started running a hillier course in preparation for a fairly hilly 5K Saturday next. I need new shoes, though; pavement running beats the heck out of them, and my knees.

Sidelined for the third week in a row with a new and different injury this time :-(

Last week got 14 miles in over 2 runs. this week - zero. have no idea what's going to happen at the 1/2 i'm doing in a month :-(

i've bruised my ribs pretty badly and running *hurts* and the doctor took it completely off the table.

Total of 45K last week, which is a LOT for me, spread out over four runs. The Really Long One (18.6K) on Sunday felt like a struggle all the way because it was c-c-c-cold with windchill at just below freezing, but I managed it intact.

Am now confident I can do the half-marathon (good thing because that's in less than 3 weeks). Looking forward to shorter runs though, and daylight allowing me to move back on to the river trails and away from the boring but well-lit sidewalks... also, will most likely be scaling back after the half, because it feels like all I've been doing in my spare time is exercise - running, swimming, belly-dancing...

And no, still proudly not thin :)

Easy answer - despite all that running, I'm still overweight in a very curvy and comfortable (for me. All right, and anyone cuddling up to me.) way.

Because I love food, and I appear destined to be living proof that one can be fit without being thin...

I haven't been able to run in a month, due to a bad case of runner's knee. It's so frustrating! But I've been going to a physical therapist and doing my PT exercises and I am hopeful that next week I will be told I can start back to limited running. Please let that be true!

I had a great running week last week, a total of about 18 miles with a good mix of lengths and speeds. I was traveling the last couple days so I didn't have time to run and today I'm feeling really tired, but I hope I can keep making progress.

I've mostly been running on an indoor track because of the ice and cold.

I have a hard time with the treadmill too. I've heard lots of times that it's supposed to be easier on your joints, but I have fallen off and had some bad scares before and I find it frightening to try to go fast on it. The indoor track I run on is frustrating in that it's so small that it's hard to keep count of the laps and distance, and it sometimes gets a little crowded, but it is good for bad weather days and the best place for me to work on speed.

Um. Another slow run and a lot of good resolutions but yesterday the city took a 6.3 quake at lunchtime and there are over 70 dead. I was here for this one, and am fine, but can't get to my house at the moment and have been staying with friends with no power or water. Have flights booked for Australia tomorrow (conference, preplanned) but not sure yet what I'll be doing - and running gear not part of my emergency kit. Doing lots of walking and better off than heaps of people.
