weekly check-in

So, those of you who ran races this past weekend - how did you do? Link us to your race report, if you wrote one - and if you didn't, write one now!

If you didn't race, tell us about your week in running, or about what you have planned coming up, or about your next planned race. Or anything else. :-)

Congratulations! (and just reading your report makes my legs ache...)

No races, but I ran about 21 miles this week, which is better than the 19 miles I did the previous week. This included running on a lovely trail in a city I was visiting last weekend, so that was fun.

I don't know about races. I'd been planning on doing a 10K on October 2nd but I thought I'd be running better and faster by now. I'm not sure if it's worth signing up when I might not do any better than at the other one I did in June. Maybe I should wait until next spring. :/

The trail run sounds great - I love running in new places! And I think you should try the 10k, too - you never know how fast you'll be in an actual race.

Ran my second triathlon this weekend, and my first at the Olympic distance! Race report is up (but locked, sorry). I think I did pretty well, all things considered. I hit my goal time of under 4 hours (3:55:00) and had a good time despite some rain in the morning and some uncooperative muscles.

Now I'm spending the rest of the season focusing on cycling and running. I've got individual events lined up for most of September and October. Yay!

Had to spend race day in bed with the flu, so no running for me until I can once again breathe without being a phlegm hazard to the people around me *cough*

Hmm. Just over a week ago my city was hit by an earthquake (7.1 magnitude) that caused a lot of damage but, extremely fortunately, no loss of life. I was out of the country, but flew back the next day in time for lots of aftershocks, contaminated water supplies and so forth. There was actually a run scheduled at my club for three hours after the quake - two very hardy souls turned up! - but otherwise it's been a bit disorganised this past week, and what with road closures and aftershocks I didn't run again until last Saturday's club run, which was a very good hilly one. Definitely therapeutic, and I'm trying to do more this week!

Hope she's doing okay! Things are slowly getting back to normal, but there are a lot of buildings damaged, and the aftershocks aren't helping - we had three in quick succession about 10.30 last night, which makes it difficult to switch off and go to sleep.

I hope to participate in a low-key but timed 5K race on Saturday - I haven't quite decided whether I want to try and run the whole way (having not run since my last race on Sep 3rd - though I do bike at least 10K every day getting to and from work), or whether I should just run/walk it in intervals - my knee was quite achy after last race, so it'd probably appreciate the latter.

Didn't really write up a big report, but basically...

Sunday was the Komen Race for the Cure in NYC. I wasn't expecting a time better than the prior week (41:36) because there were a LOT more people and Central Park has hills. Well, I knew I ran a lot more - but I wasn't sure about my pace because there weren't clocks along the route like last week. I walked a couple of times, but after a minute or two would push myself to run more. From the 3 mile marker on I was definitely running. Since this was a fun run, there weren't chips, so I'd looked at the clock when I crossed the starting line. It said 7:22. When I rounded the curve and could see the finish just at the bottom of a small hill, I do believe the words "What the F%&#?!?!?!?!?" left my mouth as I realized that the number after the 4 was NOT 7 or higher, but had just turned to 6. I crossed the finish line at 46:36 - giving me a run time of 39:14!!!!!!

So psyched!!!!

At the moment I've got no races planned. I'm working my way through Bob Harper's 4-week schedule for his DVDs, but peppering running in through the end of September. And then...

10/4 I start my run/walk a half marathon training following the plan in "Marathoning for Mortals" - getting set for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon!!!!!
