March not-check-in

Hi Runners!

Hope you're having a great March so far! Mine sucks. I've lost my will to run. No I have no idea why. I've never been this unmotivated for marathon training since I started six years ago!

So tell me something good about your running today, why you do it, why you like it, whatever makes you happy when you run.*

* or just feel free to complain (about the weather, about how your favorite shoes have been discontinued, anything you want)

I had a beautiful six-mile run in the East Bay hills this morning.

Which is as far as I've been able to run since I had inner-ear surgery last May. So go me!

Sorry about your lack of running enthusiasm (might your mind be telling you your body needs a break?).

I like running, because it's easy to do logistics-wise - I can do it right outside my front door. I like the feeling of accomplishment, because for many years I never believed I could be "athletic".

I may not like it so much come Sunday at 20 km with 5 km to go :) D:

ETA: And my fave shoe totes have been discontinued, may you rest in peace, Nike Zoom Structure 13 <3

I run because I wanted to see if I could, basically. I tried for about a month in August last year, but my ankles started hurting too much to keep going. I got a benign hypermobility syndrome diagnosis partway through August, along with a physical therapy prescription, and I assume the physical therapy is why I'm doing okay now. I decided to try again in mid-January, and it's gone way better, although it's probably too early to say whether it's going to work out long-term. The running itself isn't actually terribly enjoyable, but I like the way it makes me feel.

I hope your misery loves company, because... yeah, I'm not having the joy of running here, either. Which feels stoopid and horrible, because the weather is GORGEOUS, spring is sprung, there's nothing wrong with my body (besides the aspect of declining in cardio-shape from not running), my shoes fit and aren't worn out, and I have the time and energy to be running...

I just don't wanna.

I'm doing a bunch of core exercising and something my niece suggested called a "thigh slimming challenge" (HA!! It's bulked up both of our thighs really nicely, just like I told her it would.) And the furniture sanding project is making any upper body work... superfluous.

But I'm not running.

I figure it's a phase, and I'll grow out of it. Being unmotivated just happens sometimes, and for me, it often means that I just need to let go and do something else that I *am* motivated to do. My advice to you: follow your bliss. Even if it means you're not in great shape for the next marathon. You can always blow it off on the Day-of-Race, if it's just your own race, and if it's the relay? I have it on good authority that your teammates are VERY understanding, and are there for the teamness much more than the racing. We can be Team Runs-Not-So-Much! :-)

Good things about my running: I ran 13.5 miles today, my longest distance ever! Also it is almost spring here so on my runs I have been hearing birds and even spotted some new greenery in areas where the snow has melted.

Despite the improved weather, I feel like it has been taking a little extra effort to get outside and run. In the worst of the winter I had to plan carefully around weather and darkness to fit in my runs - now I can run almost anytime and it gets easier to put it off for no good reason.

Best wishes for regaining your motivation!
