July Challenge: Sundays will be weekly update-day. Today is Sunday!

So, I had this idea that if I couldn't find a fitting real-life or fictional distance, it might be fun to just head out the door and see where the road takes us?

As it turns out, our combined goal distance + active hours (in distance at average human walking speed) is pretty much spot on for the Wikipedia distance of the Limpopo River.

However, mulling it over, I decided travelling along the Limpopo River would be 1) a bitch to map, 2) maybe actually boring in the long run, 3) really suck in terms of mosquitoes.

So we're heading out the road and seeing where it takes us! And learning some European geography along the way, unless we paid attention at school and already know all the big cities.

We'll start at Skagen, the northern-most tip of Denmark, and head south for the German Border. When we get to Hamburg, Germany, y'all will vote on whether we continue south through Germany, turn east toward Poland, or West towards The Netherlands.

I hope you'll enjoy the trip :) !

Please post your mileage and active hours so far in the comments.

I'm at 9.45km! Broke the 5k for the first time when I joined two friends on a 1 min / 1 min run/walk interval thing today ;) (for a total of 6k)

Yes! And while the total pace will, of course, be slower, my actual running pace is higher and on the whole, it gets me further. I might use the interval training more, raising the running intervals, of course, continuously...

Looking forward to our travels!

19.5 miles, 9 active hours. I suspect that with a triathlon looming, my running mileage will again fall short but I'll happily be your bike support and swim us across any river crossings we may encounter :)

Meanwhile, I'll be enjoying the "one-foot-in-each-sea" effect of Skagen:

Heh! I was there just last year, during a Denmark holiday. :)

I really like the idea of both running along the Limpopo and running from Skagen to Hamburg and then onwards through Europe! Thank you for leading this month.

I've done 7/40 km so far this month, due to my running being restricted by asthma flare-ups. Still 17% of my goal so there's still time to catch up. Also 7 active hours of 25, or 28%.

OK, so far 34 miles (but that counts today's run) and 6.5 active hours (mostly biking and swimming last week)

I love the idea of running from where you live :-) Why not run to our place this month (Frankfurt) and then next month we can leave from my door and start running to another group member's place?

This is very cool! Now I want to follow our travels on Google Earth, look around a little! :-)

Unfortunately, I didn't add much to our mileage this week. I'm at ZERO MILES (0 mi.) running for the month. :-/ However, I managed 8 hours of hiking/active time, 7 of that in a 35 pound (15.9 kg) pack. My knees can still do this, yay!

Also, yes, I definitely owe all of y'all that final wrap-up post for Middle Earth. I haven't forgotten! Sometime today I'll get it done.

12.6 miles so far this month. I guess I should have counted hiking miles as I have way more of those!
