I am recovering from my marathon and feeling pretty good. So far the weather has been pretty good for running, but it's supposed to snow next week. What about you?
Well, I managed my first bit of running the other day, after two months of trying to sort my lungs out post-pneumonia, so I'm counting that as going well for me! Glad the marathon recovery is going well. :)
Well, I was thinking I'd be running, not alternating, but my extended colds always set me back. But getting out at all is the hard part - even if I alternate running/walking, it's way better than not getting out at all, *positive thinking*.
I am contemplating a triathlon! (Because I am insane, obviously.) If I decide to do it, this means I'm going to have to start running further than 2-3 miles at a time, damn it. Erugh.
Awesome! I actually started out as a triathlete - well, I started out as a cyclist, but didn't like pack tactics, so I did triathlons. Running was my least favorite part. From my vague memories I can tell you that the most important thing is to do lots of "brick" workouts (cycling followed immediately by running) because OMG THAT HURTS.
I right where you were--the cycling is definitely my most familiar and comfortable portion of the race. The one I'm thinking of is the DC triathlon, which just opened its registration today. It's 11 months out, which I think is enough time for training. I wouldn't break any records, but I think I could be good enough to complete it in the allotted time limits. It sounds like a lot of fun and as far as courses go it's not hard. At least the cycling and the running parts aren't; I've never tried to swim the Potomac. *wibbles at the sign up form*
That looks very cool! I grew up in the DC area (Maryland) but didn't start racing until I moved to the Boston area. I did one triathlon in Baltimore, and also the Baltimore Marathon in 2008 (with meri_oddities), but have never done any races in DC.
Swimming in the Potomac would give me the heebie-jeebies for multple reasons. :-) Open water swimming isn't really bad, though, if you practice breathing on both sides so you can take sights on where you are, and it sounds like they're actually marking the swim course with more than just turnaround buoys so it should be easy even if you can't breathe both sides. 11 months should give you lots of time! Do it! Do it!
