After a lazy first two weeks, I ran 3 times last week: a total of 18+ km, all steady runs, no walking. That's a lot for me in one week, and as it was all on asphalt/sidewalk, my knees are feeling it a bit.
Hoping to do 3 runs this week, too, but definitely doing run/walk intervals to save my knees.
First race in 2012 is a 10K beginning of February. Not sure if I should hope for a PR, or just take it slow and steady. I'm thinking slow and steady, and focusing on a good race experience (I don't think I'll make it to PR shape, anyways).
I was sick for most of December, and I wasn't doing much before that because of school, so in 2012, I'm essentially starting over. But that's okay. It feel good to get back to running even if it's slow going.
I started almost over in 2011, because of a long icy winter, where I twisted my knee, and couldn't run - and had the best running year so far. So it's not necessarily bad.
Well, as you know I started 2012 off with a marathon (and a shiny new PR!) so last week was all about the recovery for me. I've started running again, though, and am feeling pretty good - looking forward to slowly getting my mileage back up to a good training level.
What is your next race that you're working towards - I know there's uh, some other big marathon at some point (isn't there? …Not Boston, because. Gah, my memory!), but anything along the way?
I am running again! Well, 4 times last week, total 16.8 k, and twice so far this week. Last year was a complete write-off, largely due to earthquakes (and subsequent comfort eating); I also have some ongoing medical issues that mean I may have to cut down on the running again soon, but I'm hoping to at least keep up with the extra walking/cycling I've been doing.
Half marathons in March and June, possibly some 10-milers in April and May. No marathon on the horizon, although I'm considering New York which is the first week of November. It's stupid expensive, and stupid crowded, but it's a big deal and everyone I know who has run it says it's a great experience, and because they are changing the entry rules this is probably the last year I can automatically get in with a qualifying time (next year I would have to be way faster, and otherwise it's a lottery entry).
