Shin Splints
Hi everyone,
Your thoughts on posterior shin splints and how to get rid of them? I made the mistake of overdoing it on hills along with increasing my distance and frequency, resulting in a pair of seriously displeased calf muscles. I took a few days off, did some light stretching and felt pretty good. My last two runs have been ok, but this morning's run was pretty awful. The soreness has moved away from the shin area and into the inner/side part of my calves. I think one of my biggest mistakes is failing to warm up properly in the morning. Most times, I just start out with a slow jog, which seems to work on afternoon/evening runs. In the AM, however, I go straight from bed to street, which means my muscles are still pretty tight/asleep.
Have you had any experience with shin splints?

And I have too little experience with shin splints to have any advice - I used to get them, I think, back when I progressed too fast, but long enough rest to care of it.
I've been meaning to post and ask about this, and now I want to again - If I get out of bed, in running clothes, and out running fast enough, I'm actually not stiff - not as stiff as if I dawdle around and it takes me, say 20 mins to get ready. I feel like my muscles and joints are all pliant from being under the warm comforter all night. But again, it only works if I'm out the door within 7-10 mins at the very most!

I have a run planned for tomorrow morning before work. I think I'll try your method of "out of bed, on the road." I'll let you know how I feel!
