Who is running a race this weekend?

I realize this may be a tad late for non-US runners, but I'll try to remember to do this earlier next time.

I thought it might be fun for us to have a weekly post to list when and where we're racing so we can send good vibes to each other! (If it's not cool, that's fine.)

I'm running my first 5K on Sunday at 10am! The WTC Run to Remember in NYC. It's on Governor's Island, which is flat, so I signed up kind of on a whim to test myself outside on a flat course. I'm a little nervous since I'm such a relative newbie to running - I just broke 40 minutes for a 5K on my run at the gym today. I don't want to let myself get pushed TOO fast by the crowd and then flame out, but I don't want to hold back and wish I'd pushed more. I'm hoping I can just control the nerves and adrenaline and run within myself for the race, and be willing to walk when/if I need.

I'm doing my first triathlon this Sunday... not concerned about the running at all since it's 'only' 5K, and I know I can do 5K even on a bad day. Also kind of looking forward to zooming along a closed road on a fast bike that I've only had for less than a week. And the lake that the swimming happens in is at least one that I'm famiiar with too, even though I'm usually to be found in the nude section of its beach. ;)

But: clothing! All this clothings and logistics! And getting to the bloody lake on Sunday morning without a bicycle because it'll already be staged there overnight! And no buses running that early on a Sunday morning! Aaargh, the planning! XD

Seriously, though: all the best for your race - and you'll be surprised at how fast you'll be!

I ran my first race this year yesterday (Friday) evening - a 5x5K relay race (DHL Stafetten). DHL Stafetten is a very social park race mostly participated in by employees of various companies and institutions - each company is allotted an open tent (and a goodie box with various food items from sponsors) to hang out in, and there's a lot of barbecues and burning torches, and a large part of the course is in and out between the tents, so people can cheer their team members along, and short story long, the air is pretty heavy with smoke and it's a lot of fun.

Even shorter: I ran my 5K in under 33 mins (I didn't time myself other than looking at a clock shortly before receiving the baton, and shortly after handing it over), which I am extremely pleased with!

My knee is aching today - and the bottoms of my feet, which I've forgotten about after a race. Or maybe, possibly I need to get really serious about getting a new pair of running shoes.

Good luck on Sunday, yay! As it's your first race, don't underestimate how easy it is to start out too fast, going along with the crowd! If you manage to pace yourself, I'm sure you'll still do better than your gym times - I was thinking 35 mins would be pretty darn awesome, but having not run much summer because of knee, and longest distance this side of May being 3.3K, I was thinking 38-40 mins might be much more realistic. But you do get carried by the spirit of the race, and not least the cheering. Hope you have a lot of fun with it!
