weekly check-in

"Our running shoes are really erasers. Every step erases a memory of a past failure. Every mile brings us closer to a clean slate. Each footstrike rubs away a word, a look, or an event that led us to believe that success was beyond our grasp." ~John Bingham

So, how was your week of running? If you're on the east coast of the US, how are you dealing with the heat? If you're in the southern hemisphere, how is the winter treating you? What are you planning for the week ahead?

I'm doing Couch to 5k, on week seven of nine. If you feel the same geeky glee at being able to say that, i.e. you get my fandom reference, then you are clearly awesome.

I did the first run of the week this morning, anyway. It wasn't hard at all. It's quite warm in the UK, but I run on our elliptical in the garage at the moment, so it was nice and cool in there.

The winter rains here have been annoying in a lot of ways, including coming on suddenly while I'm in the middle of a run. I only managed seven miles last week, spread out over three days. Well, it's something. Not much more hopeful about this week, although I did get in a slightly longer run yesterday.

I am impressed with your commitment towards ongoing assimilation :)

(although I think running in the matching outfit would be challenging!)

I did my first hill run in ages, and it was great - amazing view of snow-covered mountains, etc, plus feeling like I was actually getting away from the city. And two indoors runs (because it's still dark and cold when it's not the wekeend), for a total of about 18k.

I'm going back to my old city this weekend for work, and I'm planning on running some of my old runs again...

I moved my Wednesday run to Tuesday, because I wanted to watch the Germany - Spain game and noticed that I started getting restless before Sunday arrived. Seems like four days break between runs is too much.

Had a nice swim and a great run on Sunday, though. Got up even earlier, was outside running around 06.20h. Went well, despite it being unpleasantly warm even at this hour. I managed to increase my speed and reduced my walking time even more.

Bonus - meeting a pretty black cat who wanted a belly rub on my last stretching break. *g*

Nasty heatwave right now. I've spent the last two days at home with mild heatstroke. Don't know if I'm well enough to run tomorrow.

Way late to the party, but last week actually marked a significant, if slightly crazy, achievement for me.

In an effort to avoid the football (and good thing too since my country's team lost and the fans would have been v. grumpy), I went on a long evening run on Wednesday. A very long one.

21K and a bit, in fact. A half-marathon, and over 7K more than my previous distance record. I was sore the day after, and one of my toenails has gone purple (thankfully without pain), but [personal profile] ell reckons these are the marks of a runner so... apparently I am one.

Congratulations on your long run and your purple toenail! (I had one go purple with pain, so your option sounds much more preferable :) )

I have lunchtime meetings three days a week, so it's not impossible, but it requires more advance planning than I've currently been able to achieve (stashing clothes, towel, running gear at least a day in advance)! Still. Worth a try :)
