Running requires nothing but me, my shoes, and the road. I like the freedom of it, and the fact that in a lot of ways it's me versus my lazy instincts.

Ditto this; and also, I used to run when I was younger, and there was never a down side to it. Then, life happened, which is great, but running took a back seat. Only recently, trying to run again, that I feel like I've regained an old friend.

Yes. I'm new to running, but I've walked for pleasure and exercise for years. I love going out in nature and following the seasons closely. Trying to spot the animals, and maybe catch a glimpse of my favorites several times.

I love how it helps me meditate, I can relax totally and just be, I can sort out my troubles, I can write fic in my head.

Running is a new thing for me, and I chose it because I want to keep my asthma and my blood sugar under control, and because I already love walking so much. I've tried going to the gym, but I don't do well with all the rules and restrictions and other people up in my space.

I enjoy competing with myself, trying to do better, but I've never liked competing with others.

Hah, glad I'm not the only one who plots fic in her head when she runs!

Yeah, I didn't care much for the gym either, though I did get decent about forcing myself to do 40 minutes on the ellipticals towards the end of college. I prefer to be actually going somewhere these days, though.

A physical destination is very motivational :-)
