I discovered I loved to run shortly after I learned to walk. :-) In elementary school, I skipped a grade, and was tiny for my age to begin with, so I was never the fastest runner - my legs were much shorter than those of my classmates. But I was tenacious. I could run for *longer* than the other kids, and I loved being good at something, even though I was smaller. I stuck with running as my sport throughout my youth, up until running on the cross-country team in high school.

Then, I stopped running, until just a couple years ago. Some very dear friends had taken up running for fitness in their 40's, and I began running to share the experience with them. I discovered I prefer to run alone than to do so with partners, but I LOVE TO RUN.

I don't do it to keep fit, though that's a nice side-benefit.
I don't do it because it helps keep my asthma under control, though it does.
I do it because when I don't, I MISS RUNNING.
