Small, clip-on .mp3-player recs?

My old .mp3-player is a bit heavy and cumbersome to run with, so I'm thinking of getting something smaller/lighter, and preferably clip-on. IPod shuffles look to be within my pricerange, but I don't know anything about them. Any of you run with them - or have alternate recs?

My dad has a Zen Stone and uses that all the time. He's got a little case for it that he clips onto his belt, I think. They're tiny and he loves Zen products (the rest of the family are mostly iPod-people, but none of us have anything small and handy).

I have a 4GB ipod nano which has served me well for three years now. I don't know much about how they compare to the shuffle (although I had a look at my mum's shuffle, and the lack of screen weirded me out), but I like my nano.

I have a 4GB iPod nano, too. It's a very nice size, fits into pockets and there are also armband cases for it, like this.

Sorry, wasn't thinking about the clip-on thing. As Yvi says, though, you can get straps for it, which is what I use, or it's very slim and light for a pocket.

If it's too dear, though, it's a moot point anyway!

In itself, no, I don't think it clips on.

Yeah, I'm not looking for a new player in itself, just one specifically for running, so there's a limit to how much I can afford to spend.

I've been running with an iPod shuffle, the clip-on one without a screen, for several years now. I like it a lot. Although I just started downloading the Podrunner podcasts, and I'm not sure if those will work with my shuffle, because the filesize is so big and there's no way to pick a particular song on a shuffle.

My one complaint about the shuffle is that mine can only be recharged by plugging it into the computer, and the computer cannot be in sleep mode. So that's kind of annoying.

I assume the Sansa Clip is a clip-on! I don't know if it's still being made, but it's one of the models I considered when I bought mine. (I got a Zen, which isn't clip-on but slips in a key pocket.)

I have a sansa clip+ that I adore. It's clip on, lightweight, holds everything I need it to hold in terms of music, books, playlists, has radio, and best of all, was only $39 at RadioShack. I like it far better than both the iPods I've owned over the years.

I listen to lots and lots of podcasts on the Shuffle. One important tip is to select your podcasts in iTunes, go into Get Info -> Options, and turn off "Skip when shuffling." Now, I use straight-through and not shuffle mode. Even so, if it's set to skip when shuffling, I can't get to the next podcast by double-clicking the center of the control thingy on the headphones.

I have a creative MuVo v100, which slips into a pocket, too, but my new running pants don't have pockets (wth? But they're long enough for me <3 - that's a first for me. I special-ordered them, too, from England), so the last times I went running, I've had to carry bike key (clunky), .mp3-player (clunky, comparatively), and mobile (clunky - to time myself, because I don't have a runner's watch, which I really need, too) in my jacket pocket (singular) and … it didn't really work :o)

I'll go to some stores today and see about the price of Sansa, it got one good review I found, thanks.

The shuffle is definitely a serious contender, it sounds like it'd work ok for me, for running.

I'm on the computer a lot, so I imagine recharging won't be a big deal?

I have a water-bottle belt I wear for longer runs or when I am wearing clothes that don't have a pocket (in which case sometimes I leave out the water bottle!). It has two little pockets, and I use one for my mp3 player and the other for food or a camera or keys or whatever.

Also, I have been wondering - what does "runner-in-spe" mean?
