Runners' Advent Day 5

Hey Runners!

The Edinburgh Running Festival is May 30 and 31 next year! Apparently, it's the fastest marathon in the UK and is also nearly sold out for 2015. There are tons of different options for different length runs. Anyone want to kick off a DW Runners Scotland meetup at the running festival? Our very own [personal profile] thalia will be there to run the half next year!

Here's the link to the website: Edinburgh Marathon Festival

And a quick poll to see if we really want to do this in either 2015 or 2016

Poll #16224 Let's Take the Low Road!

Seriously, here's the profile for the half:

The marathon is similar.

The only problem is, I figure this will probably be my half-marathon PR for life. [g]

ETA: Yes, [personal profile] ell, you should definitely come!!! If we could get enough people for the relay, that would be amazing. (I'm not volunteering because I'm really slow, but you and Tem would kick butt on two of the legs.)

Oh wow! I was going to say, this is sure to be a hard race, all those hills in Holyrood Park, but with that profile, it looks doable...

Yeah, I think it starts near Holyrood Park, but it finishes away from the city center. There's also the Seven Hills of Edinburgh race, but I'm not going near that one.

The 10K and half are on different days (at least on the 2015 schedule) so maybe I would do both? The 10K route looks particularly scenic...

If this doesn't work out, or maybe even if it does, I think planning a virtual race to do together would be fun!

I might do the 10K + 5K too, if the relay doesn't work out. And yes, absolutely, on the virtual thing.

Ok, Estel and I worked it out, and I can leave him with all the Home Responsibilities that weekend, and go play with y'all, 1/3 of the way around the world. I'll be all ahoo, time-zone-wise, but that's fine. If we can do a team relay, that'd be awesome. If we can't swing it, that's fine too. I can probably manage any of the distances in the relay, though I'd rather not be captain, given that I'm coming from so far away that I could encounter a Flight SNAFU (situation normal: all f*'ed up) in getting there.

I CAN HAZ AN EXCITE?!?!?!

(Also, I have not forgotten that I am on the hook for one more distance-tallying and photo-posting for November! But it's been... one of those weeks.)

Now I can haz an excite too - haven't been to Scotland in 20 years and so looking forward to a revisit. I'll be sure to alert our non-runner Scottish friends in good time too so we have supporters on the sidelines :)

That sure is tempting. I have at least one super-costly trip lined up for 2015, so I don't know if I should plan more trips. But if 2015 is when y'all are gonna be there. I will think on it :)

Oh, that sounds awesome! I'm not sure my running is up to anything but the 5K, but I love Scotland, and I would love to just come over and cheer for everyone. End of May is a good time for me, and Scotland isn't too far away, I guess I could easily hop over in both 2015 and 2016.
