Together we've travelled 475.1 miles or 764.4 km in July, or 43.9 % of our collective goal!

Map of journey second week from ca. Schleswig to Rhüden, Germany

From Schleswig or close enough, we passed by Kiel and through Neumünster, then excitingly through the second-biggest city in Germany: Hamburg, running though the Elbtunnel - "Achtung, achtung, hier spricht die Polizei! Hallo, hallo, det er politiet!" (at least they used to say that back in the day; haven't been through in years).

From Hamburg we continued south as decided by the poll, running by Lüneburger Heide for a bit, through Hannover and Hildesheim, and stopping for the week in the small town of Rhüden.

Not as long a run as week 1, as we had a couple of people out of commission, but we're still 0.5 % ahead of our goal, so go us!!

I'm back from the back-of-beyond, and I feel like I've been beaten with rubber hoses and my skin is peeling on my ears and my feet are blistered and my hipbones are bruise-purple and my knee is decidedly wonky and OH GOLLYGEEWHILIKERS IT WAS THE BEST WEEKLONG BACKPACKING TRIP EVER IN THE HISTORY OF EVER. And my teenage daughter loved it, and is totally hooked on backpacking, which is the best part of all.

Totals or the month:
Running distance: 16.5 miles
Active hours: 43 hours... conservatively.

Not sure I'm going to manage to make the running miles this month, with the way my knee is feeling. However, I will endeavor to blast past the expected active hours by making it up in swimming time.

Yay, what fun! Part of my not-running was also backpacking. How especially faboo that you could hook your kid on it.

Do you use poles? I wish I'd discovered them earlier - what a godsend for the knees.

I have never used poles, and I really should give them a try, given that my knees are unlikely to get any younger. :-) Thanks for the nudge, you're the third person to tell me this since I got back, and 3 is my internal, mental tipping point. :-)
