We can do this!
On our first day out past the Black Gate, we follow a newly-paved roadway that's nice and smooth. That's a pleasant change from some of the terrain we've been going over, eh? We are traveling at night by the light of the nearly-full moon, which is nice, too. Reaching the northern end of Ithilien, we find the air is fragrant and fresh, a tumbled heathland with knots of pine trees. The road remains nice and clear, we cross several lovely little streams and brooks, and one night we have a really tasty dinner of a brace of coneys. (Enjoy the pleasant traveling now -- Mordor will not be nice.)
We meet some friends on this road, who decide that it will be fun to do that "running blindfolded" thing that the elves in Lothlorien thought was so great. (I kinda wonder if they're laughing at us?) The trail behind the waterfall was pretty awesome, though. The sunset light streaming through the water was amazing. After we leave Faramir (and many thanks for the extra supplies, dude!) the trail is rougher and more sketchy. Off we go to Minas Morgul!
Up, and up and UP the winding stair we go. Golly, this is murder on my quadriceps, how about you? Picturesque, though: “jagged pinnacles...crevices and fissures...” I must insist, however, that sleeping on rock isn't very comfy.
Ok, as your fearless and silly cruise director, I must admit to having a serious phobia about BIG FAT HAIRY SPIDERS THAT WANT TO EAT ME. Hence, there will be a veil drawn over the events that occurred next on our trek. Suffice to say, we made it through to the other side, the Tower of Cirith Ungol, and actually into MORDOR. We have come about 50 miles in to the country, and we can see our target! About 40 miles in the distance (as the Nazgûl flies), there lies MT. DOOOOOOOM!!!
(sorry for the lack of images, this week. My internet connection is being slowwwww. AT&T is working on it, but I wanted to get this post up.)
Oh, and CHECK IN!!!
