Pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way...

...where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say. My sincere apologies for the absence of a post this week -- it's been busy in RL (as it is wont to be, for those of us with kids wrapping up their school year at this season.) So this is both Check-in Post for week 2 of June, and Progress Report for week 1. :-}

After doing a bit of paddling in our little boat, we headed off into Emyn Muil, working our way through some rather rough terrain for trail running. Lots of up and down, lots of clambering over the rough terrain. We made good use of our active hours with all the jagged pinnacles of weathered rock, needing our best technical climbing and belaying skills. There were only a few trees in this segment of our travels. The air became fouler as we went on, and finally we managed to descend into the ever-so-pleasant "Dead Marshes." (Somebody should talk to the naming committee for that area. It's never going to succeed as a tourist destination if they don't do something about that. Although, I must admit to chortling over the fact that the river here was called "The Wetwang.")

The fens grew more wet, opening into wide, stagnant meres, among which it grew more and more difficult to find the firmer places where feet could tread without sinking into gurgling mud. Marshes being difficult places in which to run, we didn't travel too many miles this week, but we did manage to make it all the way through to the other side of this mess.

Mordor is bracketed by mountains: to the north, the broken peaks and barren ridges of Ered Lithui, the Mountains of Ash; to the west, the tall, gloomy range of Ephel Dúath, the Mountains of Shadow. (Again with the depressing names! You'd think that Mordor was actually trying to drive away the vacationers!) Now, it's pretty clear that those mountains are not really anyplace to try running, except perhaps through that gap in the northwest corner where the two mountain ranges meet. There's a nice, broad opening on the map, with words that indicate we can probably get through there....

oh. Okay, maybe not so much. I guess we will have to find another way through? Luckily, we have found a guide to help us. He knows hidden places where "She" lives. (um, should I be worried?)

Don't forget to CHECK IN! with your totals for this week or the full month.

As of Sunday, I had only 32 miles run (so the 110 was a bit ambitious - actually it was the result of a math error in which I inadvertently assigned the first week of July to be part of June... I might still make 100, though)

But, including the weekendlong aikido seminar I was just a part of, I am up to a whopping 22.5 hours of activity. If you count all the actual aikido classes this month (which I usually don't since it's a class I go to and I don't have to self motivate to get there, which is ridiculous because it's most definitely activity), then it's 33.5 hours.

And that aikido seminar included a grading that I was part of and which got videotaped so I might be able to share some of my fighting skills with the group :-) There were 3 strapping young lads and me up there for over an hour, going at it pretty hard. Sensei's wife gave me a hug at the end because she's very into girl power...

While I got absolutely no running done in the last week, I did get about 8 hours of activity in the form of walking all over Prague in. So, yay?

Supernumerary checking in with 3.1 km of running. On a treadmill though, because it's 92 degrees and feels like 100.

As of 14th June, I'd run 13½ km of 40, 34% of my goal. I'm now at 23 km, a much more respectable 57%.

Active hours I'm doing better with my more modest target. 14th June 11 / 20 hours, 55%. Currently just over 13 hours so 2/3 of my goal.
