Runners in Spaaace - check in post

Right - sorry guys, I disappeared headfirst into work last week and failed to update as we go along. Will do better this week (once I get my appraisal out of the way tomorrow - eek!).

Anyway - on to the updates:

Mileage

[personal profile] thalia - 18/80 = 23%

Which means that currently we're in Lafayette, Louisiana which is home of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, the Ragin' Cajuns sports teams (yes, really) and the Hub City Diner, which I know nothing about but has cheeseburgers on the breakfast menu.

Edited to add bonus soundtrack courtesy of [personal profile] ilanarama.

So nearly 15 days on the ISS so far - we'll just be getting used to sleeping while floating, running while tethered on bungee cords and eating chocolate pudding cake with a really long spoon.

Overachiever of the Week Award goes to [personal profile] linaelyn - 100% of active hours target already - five days on the ISS completed!

I should also say - if we meet the active hours target, anything extra will count as EVA. So we can get to camp out overnight in an airlock (to reduce the chance of getting the bends from the difference in air pressure), put on our spacesuits (including possibly the coolest sun visor of all time) and venture out into the black...

And finally, something I never thought about but now worries me - trimming your nails in space...

All I know of Lafayette is from the Paul Simon song That Was Your Mother (from the album Graceland):

Well, I’m standing on the corner of Lafayette
State of Louisiana
Wondering where a city boy could go
To get a little conversation
Drink a little red wine
Catch a little bit of those Cajun girls
Dancing to Zydeco

I'm up to 63 miles and 1 hour of core work. Still a little behind but not as badly!

Now the entire Graceland album is going to run through my head for a day or two. BEST EARWORM EVER.

Agreed :-) it and rhythm of the saints are my go-to standard running music when i can't be bothered to make a playlist. I used to run to them on cassettes! With a walkman!

Ah, the walkman. The pinnacle of cool tech, back in the day. :-D

Rhythm of the Saints was my exercise music when I was pregnant with YK, so I have vaguely morning-sick memories of that one, though.

OMG, I was just reminiscing specifically about Paul Simon and how I've been running to his music for 25 years! And how big that walkman was banging on my hip as I ran...

I need one of those air intake vents for my fingernail clipping, here on Earth, because clearly my bedroom wastebasket is one giant REPULSOR FIELD for keratin! *peetewwww*

I sure didn't feel like an overachiever, last week! I hardly ran at all. So this week, I tried to make up the running miles (partially successful), and skimped on the other active time.

Total running miles for April: 28 miles (20 new)
Total active hours for April: 10 hours (zero new)
temve: Chibi figure of me running (Run Tem Run)

Miles run: 74
Hours of activity: 11.5
Loving this post: very much!

So far I've got 88 miles (if I did that in in hour, then the flux capacitor would kick in and I could go back in time and adjust my initial goal post for this month because I don't think I'm going to make it. A friend wants me to bike up hills with her this weekend and there's also a long run on the plan so something's going to have to be cut...)

...aaand 5 hours 55 minutes of other activity, most of it biking and sword swinging!

This is a great challenge! I love it lots!

65 miles
2.5 hours non-running

Well, I didn't get anything useful done this week at all. No wonder my activity stats are horrible too :(

My total this month stands at 38km for running.
And I've added another 3h of activity time, so 6.3h total as of yet.

Running: 11.4/20.5 = 55%

Active hours: 2.5/3.5 = 71% (pls correct 3.5 from 7.5!)

It's probably too late in this post, as everyone has been here, but if anyone is looking for a fun book on space travel, I HIGHLY recommend Mary Roach's Packing for Mars (2010) - she watches porn for science <3 <3 <3
