Hiii
First time poster, first time runner!
While it's not a New year's resolution per se, I have decided I need to start running this year. I have the intention of joining the armed forces and I understand running is a very integral part of the basic training everyone has to go through.
And to be honest, I royally suck at running. If I tried to get through basic now, I'd fail so bad. So, I'm going to build up my endurance and strength for what I'm anticipating to be the worst couple months of my life. Hah...
So today was, literally, the second time I ran outside in well over a decade. The first time was in the community park a couple months ago, but I ended up going to the gym instead of running because I liked it better. I did much better today than the last time, I think:
I ran for 2 minutes, then walked for 3, then ran 2, then walked 3 again... for a total of 8 little runs. I was out for about 40 minutes total, and all things considered, I feel like I accomplished a bit of success today. The only problem I had was my hip joints and my right knee were sore - but the same thing happened when I started walking long distances. I have confidence that this issue will pass. :)
After about a week of running like this, I want to change the pattern to running 3, walking 2, or something like that. I need to progress quickly, but not too quickly, as my body has always seemed to adapt very well to exercise. Maybe it would be a good idea to just keep adding minutes to running, but remain at 3 minutes walking.
I guess on that note I'll say: here's to a successful new year of running!
Ciao for now,
