Running with the Empire...
... or, I have been assimilated. :)
Mixed sci-fi metaphors aside, thanks to
ell's patient and somewhat incessant sales pitch, I am now the proud owner of a GPS watch, a Garmin Forerunner 10. I count it as something of a win that it's one of the plainest, simplest ones out there, and therefore most watch-like in appearance - actually, sitting next to my regular women-sized sport watch, it's only a little chunkier.
And it does only the bare minimum of GPS watch functionality, but really, that is all I would ever use: it tells me how far I've run, and how fast I'm running.
And it comes with a blinking TIE fighter. I mean, look at it - the little symbol on the top, which is supposed to indicate satellite connection... doesn't like like a satellite to me.
<Obi-Wan voice>That's no moon...</Obi-Wan voice>

This, by the way, is not my watch - I don't run that fast, and I don't have it set to speak German to me either... and it doesn't sport the Sith colour scheme of black-and-red but rather is simply black and grey.
Anyway, this means that now when I go out on a solo run (without
ell and her massive GPS watch that I like to call the OCD watch and refuse to wear) I can now go exploring rather than running the usual routes the length of which I know exactly, or having to consult Googlemaps to see how many miles running up to Eddersheim Locks actually would be, and what questionable landmark would be the 5-mile turnaround point.
Instead, I rely on blinking TIE fighters to escort me now. Which, given that I would usually give my affiliation as Jedi and given the fact that I actually own a full set of Jedi robes & tunics complete with homemade lightsaber, is more than a little ironic. :)

Now I just hope I get clearance for running again on the 8th (should be fine, though, as this time it was a truly minor surgery...) :P and that I won't have to have yet another surgery.
