February challenge - week 1

We're a week into February - how many miles have you run?

I added up all the miles (and kilometers :-) and came up with a target of 870 miles for February...which happens to be the distance across Alaska between Anchorage and Unkaleet, which is much of the Iditarod. Since that dogsled race starts March 1st, we'll 'run' it this month so we can get out of the way before the dogs come!

If you signed up on the challenge post, be sure to post here with your miles for the month so far! If you didn't sign up but you want to help us run a virtual Iditarod, feel free to post your miles, and I'll add them in. (Maybe we can get all the way to Nome!)

I'll post on Monday, or when everyone's chimed in, with a progress bar for everyone and a progress map for the group.

46 miles so far for me Feb 1-7 (so not counting today).

10 miles for me. I've been running through some snow, ice, and slush so it feels appropriate to be "running" the Iditarod!

None so far, but this coming week I need to get back to running even if the weather doesn't cooperate. Whee.

What's sad is, I'm happy to run outside as long as it's over 10F and the streets aren't a disaster--but there haven't been a lot of days like that this year. Most annoying winter ever. (But it is really pretty.)

17 miles so far! I'm pleased with my progress, even though I've slacked off these past couple days.

3.5 so far - waiting on my longer run this weekend until tomorrow to let as much of the ice melt as possible.

I think the Front Range got worse weather (both colder and more snow) than down here in the SW.

1.25 mi for me, although I still have one more day, and tomorrow there is trail yoga...

Trail yoga sounds interesting! And glad you approve of my fanciful choice!

Trail yoga was fun! There was no running, but there was about 1.25 mi of walking, with stops for yoga about every .35 mi.

So I did a total of 2.5 mi last week. Yay!

I'll add today's mileage in to next week, okay? Don't let me forget it. I figure that will make things easier since February is evenly 4 weeks.

On the other hand, if the weather stays like this, I might slack off occasionally because I don't feel like wading up a creek *again*.

I figure some will exceed, and some will fall short, so it will all even out in the end.

37 miles, not counting today's run which we're about to embark on, and which would bring the total to 51 miles for me!

31,2 km for me for February so far, including fastest 10K yet.

I ended up running 18,8 km today almost on a whim/by mistake - ran with a group, and was going to drop out around 14 km or so, but realized I'd be stuck without an easy way of getting back to my bike, so ended up running the whole way. We ran slow, though, and waited for each other at water stops/toilets. Still, am pretty beat, but proud \o/

None so far - in the coming week I have to be a woman and learn to leave the house in the rain.

I don't mind running while it's raining, as long as it starts raining after I'm already out there. It's hard to get going into the rain!

Yeah, I'm also ok if it starts after I've already started running, but it is so hard to motivate to do it when the rain is already started.

Today, we had hail on our run, which was actually significantly more fun than rain

46 for me so far in February - missed a run this week so I'm a bit behind Tem-ve...

Hopefully, I'll still be on point for the goal, though.

I'm a huge fan of sled dogs and movies featuring talking sled dogs. I may become insufferable this month...

I was thinking of Snow Dogs which I refuse to stop liking despite its idiocy

Have I mentioned that Estel's mom raised Siberians for decades, and for the past 15 years or so, she's run NorCal's Siberian Husky rescue? One of her house-dogs (named Harley, IIRC) was a canine-actor in Iron Will (yet another sled dog movie.)

I've seen Iron Will :-) that is so cool! I've always loved huskies even though i am very aware that my lifestyle and cats make me completely unacceptable as a dog owner, especially of one like a husky. But they're still amazing dogs...
