Orodruin, the Mountain of Fire
Hard and cruel and bitter is the land that met our gaze.

We looked upon Orodruin, The Mountain of Fire. Ever and anon, the furnaces far below its ashen cone would grow hot and with a great surging and throbbing pour forth rivers of molten rock from the chasms in its sides. Some would flow blazing towards [the site of the former] Barad-dûr down great channels; some would wind their way into the stone plain until they cooled and lay like twisted dragon-shapes vomited from the tormented earth...
We have crossed the stinking, fume-laden wastes of Mordor. We have won through, and made it to Mt. Doom, where the Ring of Power, the One Ring, was destroyed.

And we made it here to our final destination by the end of Week 3!! HUZZAH FOR THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RUN!!! You know what this means? EAGLE RIDES FOR EVERYONE!!!
(um, yes, I made a math error which resulted in our goal distance for the month being much lower than for previous months. So, um, whoops, my bad. But that means no need for guilt over the stuff that got in the way of running time, this month?)
Let's see how far back we can make it on the journey home, okay? Here's our totals for the previous check in, and if you CHECK IN this one last time, I'll happily total it all up for the two months and tell us all how far we have come, across this grand adventure through Middle Earth.

Total active hours for June: 16.75/15 = 112% of goal
I'm reasonably pleased with the month's exercise. This week, I managed a 12 mile run, and I'm feeling really good about the possibility of making it to half-marathon distance by the time I hit my 50th birthday, later this year. It's a target I'm hoping to make.

And as for activity, 32 hours total, including 3800 sword cuts and 9 km swum!
Also, guess what I found to run to last week? The Nicol Williamson recording of the Hobbit! So, my last two runs were headed to the Lonely mountain with a hobbit of mutual acquaintance, 13 dwarves, and a wizard of some repute.
