November Challenge

Hi Runners!

I was thinking that a November Challenge is in order and I'd be happy to come out of my DW hibernation and run it this month.

There are several reasons why running would be good for us this month:

1) It's NaNo month and running boosts creativity

2) For many of us, the days are getting shorter and colder, the clocks are turning back soon or have just turned back and running can improve your mood. For all the southern hemispheric folks, running now will help get you fit for a summer of fun activities. (No, I'm not jealous. Or bitter.)

3) For all of us, the stress of the holidays is coming (and the stress of the T-word being elected next week) and running can help with anxiety and depression.

So I propose a November running challenge. Let's work together and have a great, productive, and sweaty November!

I am trying to get back into running again after a series of unfortunate events (like bad hips that lead to bad knees and moving to a new(old) continent.

My running/exercise goal this month is to do some exercise every day. Starting today. Running, I hope to get 50 miles this month. And break in the new running shoes I bought yesterday. Comment here with your goals and I will make us a spreadsheet and post our progress weekly.

Hi there! Thanks for starting up a November challenge - I can definitely use the inspiration during these darker days.

My goals: 110 miles, and 7 other active hours.

That would be lovely! Thank you! I'm shooting for 40 miles this month, including two 5ks. Hopefully one of those will be in less than 30 minutes. Also 5 hours of biking.

Dammit, woman, you are my hero right this moment. BRING IT.

My goal matches yours: every day, do SOMETHING. And I'm going to add in a mileage goal, but it can be walk or run, based on how much the plantar fasciitis flares (hopefully not!): 3 miles/day = 90 miles for the month.

I'm going to do 30 mins of core work on the living room floor right now, so I don't miss today.

Ooooh, another month challenge! Let's see what my spreadsheet says...

60 miles run and 26 hours of activity (mostly biking) is my goal for the daaark month of November. Started it off yesterday by making myself go out and run so the first step is done :)

All right, with so much motivational stuff, I'm going to try again. Very slowly, though. 20km running (or walking), 4 hours of core/weight lifting/other active hours.

*looks at calendar, writes some numbers down on a post-it*

Well I'd like to get a total of 176km run this month, working up distance-wise to a long run of 20km on the final weekend. However I can see several potential spanners in the works looming on the calendar (particularly a long weekend spent at my parents) so we'll have to see if I can actually get out for all those runs.

*emerges from lurker mode*

I'll join in. I'm mixing up (fast) walking and running for a few different reasons right now, so my plan is to cover 147 miles total, with 93 of them being running.

I'm not going to be around most of the second half of the month, so I will not join in, but I shall cheer you and everybody else from the sidelines.

I'm new here so I just thought I'd say "hi". I've been running for past year and a half up here in Canada and am loving it (even in snowstorms).

After running the Army Run half marathon in September, I have taken a bit of break, so my November goal will be to just get back to running 4 to 5 times per week again. After that, I'll be starting my training for the Ottawa Race Weekend in May.

I'm happy to have found this community on DW. See you around!

Really good plan. Yes. More running is needed.

I shall try for 75km and 10 hours of active time this month. That should be doable despite all the traveling November seems to bring every year.
But I will also do some form of exercise every day. Even if it is just 10 minutes of easy circuits.
